Train Depots
Train depots have dissapeared
from our historic architectural landscape too quickly in the 1900s.
Often a depot is lost unnecessarily because people just were not
paying attention to gradual development or they didn't recognize
the threat of rapid development. The salvage, preservation, and
restoration of a depot is possible. Please don't expect your town
to take care of your local architectural treasures... depots or
otherwise. People save and restore depots. It may not be
easy but "many hands make light work". Please do what
you can.
Remember that depot
sites make great homes for vintage train engines and railroad
cars. The building itself can also be used for historical displays
or as a facility for train enthusiasts.
